Buying Llamas

It is important to purchase llamas from an experienced breeder or at least someone who will give you a guarantee (in writing) and support before and after the sale. Too often, an inexperienced new owner gets his llamas home only to find they are difficult, if not impossible, to handle. Often not sheared, inoculated, or dewormed. How does a person unfamiliar with llamas shear one that is badly matted and difficult to handle? The impetus to purchase llamas from a livestock auction or individual is often the cheap price. "Caveat Emptor" (let the buyer beware) applies here. As summer approaches it is critical in the warm regions that llamas be sheared, inoculated against Meningeal Worm (if you have white-tailed deer in your state) and dewormed. Otherwise you may find your newly purchased friends becoming sick and possibly dying.
